Oh *there’s* my soapbox!

WARNING: None of the following have anything to do with MWO (except for that it has to do with, well, everything). Continue at your own leisure.

I just wanted to share some things that I think are valuable and could always use more attention. So if you’re interested in becoming a better person (as in, more effective, not as in more moral, though maybe that too idk, and no this isn’t self-help stuff), I would recommend you check out one or both of these:

Rationality: From AI to Zombies is a non-fiction “book” of Eliezer Yudkowsky‘s blog post/essays made on LessWrong.com which has been heavily edited, organized, compiled, etc. into a ~1800 page long thingy that is just pretty awesome. You can pay as much or as little as you want – the recommended thingy is 5 bucks but you can pay 0, ten, 0 now and a thousand later, whatever. The money goes to the Machine Intelligence Research Institute (MIRI) a group hellbent on saving the world.

The other recommendation I have is to check out Harry Potter and the Methods of Rationality. Yes it’s a fanfic and I know the connotations such things have; I nearly let that dissuade me from trying it in the first place which woulda been bad. But it’s seriously my favorite thing I’ve ever read, and totally holds up on its own as truly awesome literature. It was just finished a few weeks ago and it is well worth the read. And to quote the note on Chapter 1: “This fic is widely considered to have really hit its stride starting at around Chapter 5. If you still don’t like it after Chapter 10, give up.”

These aren’t the only bits of rational literature out there of course (though it isn’t exactly a popular area), but they are the bits I’m most familiar with and feel most comfortable recommending. Anyways, that is all. Bye bye! Thanks!
