Weekly Blog #7 – Back to Work! New Years’ Resolutions & BotW

Heyy guys.

So if you noticed, I was MIA this last week or so (I even missed a couple SJR practices…shame on me) due to holiday celebrations and the hangovers/food comas that go along with such things. I hope you all had/continue to have a fun time for the rest of 2014.

Personally, I’ve been trying to plan out my own future, and in particular the future of MetaMechs. So in accordance with that, I’m making a few New Years’ Resolutions. Note that I’ve never actually done such a thing before…the closest I’ve ever gotten to such a thing being “finish this whole bottle”, but there are a few things I legitimately want to accomplish this year for this site:

  1. Make a Master Guide for every chassis in MWO.
  2. Do something big.

Now, the first is something that I think is reasonable – if I write a master guide every week for the entire year (and my current average is closer to 2 per week, realistically), it should cover a total of 65 chassis after you add on the 13 I’ve done this year. With only 44 chassis’ in-game at this time and only 4 more even announced yet, I think I can keep up and finish this goal without much of a problem. The real challenge I see is that I’ll have to practice light mechs a lot more (something I’m actually already doing) so that I can write with full authority on them.

The second one is difficult due to both its ambiguity and the effort it will likely require from me… I don’t know what this something will be (I’m open to ideas) but I’ve gotta make something happen with this website, because I don’t want it to ever stop trying to be more than it is already, if that makes sense (remember, it started as a place for 3 tier lists, my master guides, and a few articles…and while that’s still the focus, I’ve since expanded to 5 tier lists, all sorts of guides, community warfare, forums, and more). The rate of progress is certainly sustainable, but I want to make it into more. If all I can say at the end of the year is that I’ve doubled my average hits per day (around 4k right now woohoo!), then I’ve failed this challenge.

Anyways, enough of that crap. Let’s build a mech!

This is new adaptatrion of an old concept from way back in the closed beta times. I forget the original name given to it, but if Memory sees this and wants to remind me, I’ll change it to that. For now, I’m calling it the

2-seXy

In my opinion, the main thing holding heavies back from participating as effective brawlers has been that the lighter ones don’t have enough armor and the heavier ones don’t have the maneuverability (jumpjets and/or speed), hitboxes, or firepower to do anything. The CTF-3D is the main one that ever came close, but even that is really underwhelming in the firepower and hitbox departments, whereas the Orion only can ever have the firepower and will never measure up in terms of maneuverability or hitboxes. This 2-seXy is the closest I can reasonably get to something with enough firepower that doesn’t have shitty mobility, but it still has the weak hitboxes and lacks jumpjets. But…its quirks and weapons really do make it a beast.

Focus on keeping your head down for the majority of the match so that you stay fresh enough to last in a brawl, and once the brawl does happen, just mash your buttons. Your AC/20 cools down quickly, as do your SRMs, and I’d recommend adding on a cooldown module for each of those, as well as your MPLs, to give your AC/20 and SRMs roughly a 2.5 second cooldown which should give you crazy deeps. Other than that, just stay mobile, stay shooting, and stay thirsty my friends.
